What is carob?
Carob colloquially refers to the fruits of the carob tree. Internationally, the terms Carob and Locust Bean are common. Both the pods and products derived from them, such as powder and syrup, are used.
Forms & Differences
- Carob Powder: dried & ground pod; popular for drinks, porridge, baking.
- Syrup: cooked extract with natural sweetness; for toppings & hot drinks.
- Pod/Chips: for infusions or cooking in compote.
- Important: Locust Bean Gum (E410) is a technical thickener made from the seeds – not the same as carob powder.

3) Baking & Porridge
Add 1–2 tbsp carob powder to oatmeal or batter. Tip: Combine with cocoa if a stronger flavor is desired.
